  Designing with MetalFX®

Special treatments
When designing with MetalFX®, you can create a host of stunning visual effects that add luster to your publications and featured products. The techniques displayed below are known as SpecialFX.

HoloFX makes words and images seem to appear and disappear by using varied levels of MFX® base.

LiteFX makes a selected section of artwork appear to change color. This allows you to create the appearance of movement on the page.

SecurityFX is useful for vouchers, security labels and packaging when security is a priority. Combining metallic LiteFX and HoloFX creates an image that is almost impossible to recreate without the original artwork.

Metallic Tint Panels are an effective of way bringing your CMYK image to life and adding a sophisticated touch.

Achieving best effects with MetalFX®

  • Choose your paper wisely. If possible, avoid porous uncoated paper that might absorb MetalFX® inks and mute their impact.
  • Select varnishes and laminations carefully to avoid diluting the impact of MetalFX®.
  • Include contrast in your images between MetalFX® and standard CMYK colors.
  • Limit MetalFX® to 40% of the image, leaving the rest as standard CMYK. This results in a striking effect by using the untreated color to set off the MetalFX®.
  • Red and black should be used as standard process colors. Adding metallic color will change their shades, but surrounding them with MetalFX® will make them stand out.
  • Be careful of the misconception that metallic color would look better positioned near black. On the contrary, too much black may absorb the light away from MetalFX®, thus muting its impact.
  • Choose very clean images and include white spaces in your printed products to allow more light to show through for a more striking visual effect.
